Learning how to work online has been a long and often bumpy road for me. I absolutely love learning how to do new things and implement them.... but only when it goes ok!
I am sort of joking here, but mostly not.
Learning most things is easy for me so I love it. I love learning something new, having a light bulb moment, going to my website and implementing it and sitting back to watch the results. There is just nothing better than this.
The other side of this coin is that I do almost everything for myself. Yes I outsource a few things but the majority I do myself.
There are certain things I don't catch on easily and I try and implement these things and it just doesn't happen for me.
I keep asking for advice and I keep trying and it just does not work. With these things I literally frustrate myself to tears.
One example of this is hosting a video on my own site. Yes I have watched all the videos about Filezilla and my ftp thing but I just don't get it and I have tried so many times.
Fortunately hosting a video on my own website was something I was thinking of doing and I had very specific reasons for maybe wanting to do it, but decided not to. Mostly because I couldn't do it LOL.
But this post is not about hosting a video on Wordpress. It is about what do YOU do when you get so stuck?

As for hosting a video on your own site. Yeah, if you have the MP4 file of it, you can just upload it to your site from the Media Importer. But doing that for a really large file will slow your page load speed right down to a crawl rate. Especially for people on a slow connection. Quite simply the best thing to do for large video files is to host them on YouTube and just use the embed code in your post/page instead. That way it only downloads as it plays instead of having to download the whole video into their browser first before it will play.
For small videos it's okay. Those that are around 5-20MB but anything more than this should just be embedded for the above reasons.
