This is Question 2 of my 10 part series on 10 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Becoming a Full Time Freelancer.
Question 2: Are You Happy to Leave Your Comfort Zone?
When you're starting out as a freelancer, and even when you're a full time busy one, you'll have to see it for what it is and that's a business. So you'll have to see it and treat it like you would running a business too. You may have to do everything yourself at first such as actually finding clients to work for, advertising yourself and your services. And of course, working for your clients and handling and completing all their orders and delivering them on time to keep them happy.
You may not be used to all of this at first and some people aren't cut out for it period. You may find that you're working very long and unsociable hours fulfilling and working on clients orders. And you'll have to deliver all your work on time and to good satisfaction of the client in order to get paid for your work too. Plus some clients might not be in your time zone so you may be up taking orders at 3AM which could be their 6PM when they're home and buying SEO or whatever for their site!
Basically, working as a freelancer can require and take up a lot of your time and you might not be used to or even ready and prepared for all of that.
So you have to ask yourself; am I comfortable with this and can I work outside of my comfort zone for long periods of time?

I didn't like the fact that I was becoming more and more of an antisocial character and had to put work first over pretty much everything else.
For any rookies out there: you need to have discipline, makeup and normal working schedule and try your best to keep it. Even though I'm pretty sure you'll probably end up just like me, having chaotic working hours, lack of good sleep and a general lack of having fun.
Bottom line: Full time freelancing is no easy task! And definitely not for everybody! Damn, I hated not having a freaking schedule. I was a full time freelancer for about 3 to 4 years. First 2 years were fine, but eventually, I started getting bad at managing my working hours. I would sleep most of the day and work most of the night. I didn't like the fact that I was becoming more and more of an antisocial character and had to put work first over pretty much everything else. For any rookies out there: you need to have discipline, makeup and normal working schedule and try your best to keep it.
