The Moving Man Method - A High Quality Link Building Method Taking Marketing Agencies by Storm

Earlier on I covered The Skyscraper Technique which is a technique you can use to come up with amazing content ideas for your blog. And this is The Moving Man Method which is sort of similar but goes a different way about doing it.

Actually, The Moving Man Method is a relatively new method for content creation and was officially coined by Brian Dean from Backlinko and it's proving to be a very very successful method of content creation that is taking marketing agencies by storm!

Just like The Skyscraper Technique, it involves sprucing up and revamping old content into content that is much more useful and better than the original version.

In order to do The Moving Man Method you will need to;

  • Find and identify sites in your niche that have moved to a new location or gone down or simply stopped operating.
  • Create content that is more relevant and up to date and better than the original.
  • Find out who was linking to that old site and ask them if they will like to link to your webpage instead of the old non-working version instead.

Thanks Mike, so how would I know what content was on that website in order to create better content (if that website is no longer operating)? Would I use something like Scrapebox to find all the websites that have linked to that content?

Sorry for all the questions, I am always learning new things and the more I learn the more I realize I have to learn. Sometimes I just get confused with some of the technical bits of how things work. I still have to give Scrapebox a go! I am very interested to see what it will do for me.

Hi Lynne good question! Well, if the site/content is gone you can use Waybackmachine to see what it used to have. Chances are it has a copy of what used to be on that site. And you can just search the URL of that content in quotes in Google. Example: "site.com/this-was-a-good-post" and it will show you all the sites that had or have that URL on their site. You can do that manually in Google but you could also use SB for that too. I'll have to make a couple videos up of how to do it in SB along with some of the other things it can do that you might like to use it for such as for scraping links, checking what the stats of those links are and other stuff too that you might find relevant. It's a really very user friendly software and is very intuitive plus there's tons of videos out there on it. Just search some guy called "Loopline". He used to do hundreds of videos on SB. Example: ScrapeBox Tips and Tricks - Powerful Tricks Unkown to many ScrapeBox Users.

Mike, this is sort of like the broken link method right? What if the owner or administrator doesn't reply and you create a new content for nothing.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yeah sort of but with a different spin. Where in the broken link method you're actually looking for broken links, in this method you're looking for content you can make better. But you wouldn't be creating new content for nothing though because you'd still be creating new content for your blog. Content that was better than the original version and that would be of huge benefit to your site/blog anyway. Even if you couldn't get the site owner that was linking to that content to change their link to yours. You'd still have some great content so it wouldn't be for nothing. Besides, you'd probably pick up a few new links anyway and still be getting recognition for that content too. Even if none of those people that was linking to that old version of that content link to you instead. So it's a win win even if they don't. This looks like a good method if you ask me. Only issue is that if the people who are on those old pages will be willing to give the links. So for most of the client work this may or may not work at all. So one has to understand what is possible. And what can't be in this method. I have to try this method out for many ways.

The Moving Man Method? I have never heard of this marketing method, however, I found this to be quite interesting and might use one of these days. We need backlinks to push our sites to the top of the search engines. If you do not have backlinks, reaching the top results is very difficult. However, backlinks are not the sole reason for top rank, you also need high quality content.

Isn’t it too difficult a task to find out about those old websites that are not operating and checking who are linking to them? Pardon me but I wonder if that effort is worth the rewards. Maybe I could just write a 1,000 word article to constitute a new content than to do that difficult work of researching old websites and their links. Again, it is easier to create a new content from scratch than to recreate an old content.
