Playing a game in PDF file? Yes, it's possible!

Today i was searching on Google for some new online games, and while browsing i found a "game" that was a bit different from traditional games. Why it's different? It's different because this is the first time i played a game in PDF file. Yes, a game inside pdf file. And, we've been using pdf files only for documents so far, but not anymore.

Oh that's pretty cool. I never really knew you could embed flash in a PDF file. Have always thought they were for text and images only. I do remember asking a while back somewhere how you could put a video in a PDF file and I think I was told that you couldn't. But if you can embed a flash file into it then quite clearly you can if that video is converted into flash. The only drawback is that it only works in Chrome and not in Firefox or IE. I'm sure Mozilla have a genuine reason for this but it just shows how Chrome is much more versatile these days than it used to be and that you can do a lot more with it when it comes to stuff like this. I'm not sure right now how this could be useful to me but I'll probably come across it again at some point in the future and remember this to see how it could be done.

Very interesting. The game didn't support Firefox browsers so I had to switch from Firefox to Chrome to test it out. Overall, it seems like a lot of potential. However, what is the basic use of adding games to PDFs?

Not just games but videos. You can easily convert a YouTube video into a swf file video which you could then embed into the PDF. I don't know if that would be practical for really long videos but for short videos just perfect! It would mean your reader wouldn't have to click on an external link in that PDF to watch the video and could watch a shorter version of it directly in the PDF.

Even more interesting. I can see how embedding videos could be a great feature for PDFs. Now, im just wondering what happens when you print a PDF file, could you play the game or watch videos on printer paper? LOL

Ah right yeah, it would probably just print how it appears before you click the play button like. Moving picture paper is coming though. What's that Jude Law film where he's on a train reading a newspaper and it has moving pictures in it? I see something coming like that in the future.

Why wouldn't you just use a phone, tablet, or laptop to read a newspaper? I wonder what the cost would be for that technology..

Well you could like, now. But in the future, moving pictures will be able to be added to newspapers and magazines etc as the technology increases and improves. The costs would get smaller and smaller as the technology improves too. Eventually I see this expanding into other areas as well such as moving business cards and animated flyers and posters and things. Nothing but paper that have actual 30 second videos on them you can watch. I don't know if they'll have sound though that's something else they'll have to contend with at some point but I definitely see this as an area that will grow simply because there is so much demand for it.

Thank you Mike, for enlighten me! I have heard about this, but never seen it, and never done something like that in my own creations. I haven't done that game thing either. I will definitely keep this in mind upon my next creation, as this will surely make it even easier for my readers to catch every single bit of information I feed them with, without using external links. That's incredible, and it's amazing. Great information, thank you!

This reminds me of the first time that I had played a game on a spreadsheet. It was a golf game that is not really simple but quite fun to play. During the early years of the millennium, there were no complicated video games yet and simple games like golf and billiards were popular. And now you are saying that there is a game inside a PDF file, let me see that. Thanks for sharing.
