    Do you use Surge Protector for your Computer?

    When it comes to power fault, a surge protector is the best choice to avoid serious problems that can affect your computer. Here in my area where i live, power line it's good but sometimes becomes unstable and due to this using a surge protector is the only way to protect my computer.

    I definitely use a surge protector with my laptops and desktops. I can't risk anything happening to my babies (my electronics... Don't tell my lady) Do you use Surge Protector for your Computer?

    I have had something fry one of my laptops in the past, and it's one of the few times I didn't use a surge protector to add another level of security to my stuff Do you use Surge Protector for your Computer? Having good spyware/antivirus software isn't enough, you have to stop the electricity from killing everything. At least with adware, viruses and spyware you can get it removed. Sometimes it's an extreme pain in the butt, but it can usually be fixed. If you get hit with a wave of electricity you've basically turned your desktop or laptop into an extremely expensive paper weight.

    Side note... I have one extremely expensive paper weight for sale if anyone is interested Do you use Surge Protector for your Computer?

    Oh yeah i like to call them babies too, i love my electronics. I've lost one of my computers due to electricity fault, so i can't risk anymore using my computer without a surge protector. I remember, that day was like the end of world for me.

    Actually i've bought it from a local shop here in my country. Brand name : Jacky, but i did not find any information on internet about that brand.

    I don't but I really should! I live in South Africa and we have some serious power problems here, especially in winter. We usually have what they call "load shedding" where each town takes a turn every day to be without power. Sounds crazy huh? Well this is our reality here.

    And sometimes you are not informed of it and when the power just cuts out it can really cause big problems. I've had one wifi modem blown last winter, as well as a screen. Thankfully my pc was never affected. I try and use my laptop mostly because then I won't be affected.

    I should really invest in a surge protector!

    Yeah i know what you're saying because we have same problems here with power. One of my computers was burned due to power problems, so that's why i'm using surge protector Do you use Surge Protector for your Computer?

    I do not use a surge protector, but I see the benefits of using one. With power surges and spikes you can end up with damaged electronics and appliances. Surges and spikes can easily occur, as it could be due to lightning strikes, or problems with the electric grid. Sometimes we tend to take things for granted, as in this case when we think that nothing can happen, but it actually can. A surge protector can help as in such cases it will divert energy to a protective component within it, thus ensuring that only a normal and safe amount of electricity passes to your computer.

    Hi procoder thanks for your good reminder. For protecting any electrics device from power fault chargers protector very importance. I am using stabilizer for protection from such situation. And also using in-plane switching (IPS) for backup power after electricity run out and I am also using uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for my home and office electronic device. These devices protect my computers and Blue ray and Smart TV. Though here in our country electricity fluctuating very much. So, I recommended to anybody, use any surge protector to safe your electric devices. It may IPS, UPS or stabilizer both 3 may protect your devices.

    Same as the rest! I don't but I should! I do use a power extender but I don't think it has power surge protection built into it. I think it's been the same one that I've used for about 10 years. However I think that they are built in to most home power supplies now anyway. But they aren't really expensive to buy either. You can get a decent one for around $20 from eBay, Maplins or some other electrical shop. But as said, you might not even need one. If you live in a modern recently built home, it's likely that your power supply unit has surge protection built into it. So if it does, that will deal with the surge before it even reaches your powered devices, PC, laptop, TV, fridge etc etc. If you have one of these new modern power supply units in your home that has built in surge protection, getting a surge protector might actually not even be needed. You should check with whoever supplies your electricity and ask them about whether your power supply unit has surge protection or not. If it does then you wont even need to get a surge protector but if not then that would make more sense to get one.

    Here's something worth knowing about surge protectors though. If you use one, and you have a power surge which subsequently damages your electronic goods, you can claim on that if the surge protector is still in warranty. Belkin surge protectors for example usually come with a warranty that covers you for up to $300,000 of "Connected Equipment Warranty" and even state that "If your electronic equipment is damaged by a surge, spike, or lightning strike while properly connected to this power strip, we will repair or replace it, up to $300,000." Most other good/reputable surge protectors will come with a "Connected Equipment Warranty". So when purchasing a surge protector for your electrical goods, try to purchase one that has this "Connected Equipment Warranty" with it so that if your electrical goods ARE damaged despite having the surge protector in place, you can claim these back as damaged on their warranty.

    I never thought to use a surge protector. Don't know why, usually you think that things won't happen to you. I suppose I fell victim to this thinking. And perhaps I shall too invest in a surge protector. Of course it will eventually pay for itself, right? But on the other hand, usually I turn off my computer before a storm hits, just in case. And I don't normally leave my electronics plugged in if a storm were to occur.

    I use a multi power surge protected socket adaptor but thats because they didn't sell normal socket adaptors when I bought it. Thats a good thing because it offers extra protection and is similar in price to a normal socket adaptor. My computer is pretty expensive so spending a bit more money to protect my computer is a good idea. From time to time, we also get some small power issues so it is good to be safer. A lot of my friends also use power surge protectors and they like it because they offer more protection for their electrical devices.

    Aside from the AVR, the most common electrical socket in our house is the surge protector. Gone are the days when it is called electrical extension cords. What we have now are surge protectors. In fact, we just bought a 6-socket surge protector last Sunday for our newly installed CCTV system which has 5 plugs for 3 cameras, dvr and tv. It is risky not to have a surge protector because the electric voltage here is always unstable and that can ruin appliances.

    Well I do use a couple of surge protectors at home, one for my computer and another one for my 2 printers they're both connected to a voltage regulator just to be safe.
