Why is football so popular?

I do not know anything about football and don't watch it on TV or in person at games. I don't follow sports. Maybe you can tell me more about your favorite teams or what you love about the game so much.

I'm not into contact sports but I know that a lot of people are.

Football is a very physical sport and maybe watching it is a good way to release tension or anxiety. I can't say for myself as I don't watch it.

I also wonder why football or soccer is the most popular sport worldwide. To think that a game played for almost 2 hours can end in a scoreless tie. Isn't it boring? Unlike basketball where the score can reach 100, it has more excitement to offer than the football game that has a score that can be considered a rarity.

I also never used to be a football fan but it is not uncommon to find me watching a match these days, especially a match in the English Premier League. I think that all the drama associated with football makes it a must watch. The EPL especially is marketed really well. Before the game they tell us all the drama that is going on with the teams and the individual players. Its actually like watching a soap unfold. Most people or Saturday and Sunday afternoons are busy watching the game.
