A weird thing happened to my Firefox browser

A few hours ago, I turned on my computer and loaded Firefox and it acted like a new browser, no bookmarks (though all my plug ins were still in place). And, I had no cookies or saved login details. So I had to manually login to each site again. Other than that, the page that loaded first was from a 'sponsored results' site.

And, just a few minutes ago, I shut down Firefox and brought up again (as it was being laggy) and now all my bookmarks and saved login details are back. No sponsored results site loaded, only my regular home page.

I'm not sure what's going on, but it's very worrisome. Any suggestions on what could have caused this temporary glitch?

Did you login as a different user on Firefox? Or, do you have other users? Maybe you were in guest mode. It seems unlikely all your info could be deleted and restored so quickly.
