How To Register Nameservers On Namecheap

Hello! I have seen people posting about Namecheap so I decided to write a tutorial for beginners. Nameservers connect your website to your domain. Basically, it lets your web hosting provider connect to your domain name provider so it knows where to send all of the details to etc. Nameservers can also be used to create your own. So instead of ns1.nameserver.com it could be ns1.yourdomain.com. That's useful for legitimizing your website and is helpful when you have a dedicated IP address. Dedicated IP addresses can also be used for SSL certificates too.

Here are the steps to setting up your nameservers:

Step one: go to Namecheap's website and register your domain. If you have a domain, skip to step two.
Step two: when you have your domain, go to your domain control panel and select the domain you want to register the nameservers with.
Step three: under all the options for the domain, you'll see "General" and under that you'll see "Domain Name Server Setup".
Step four: Click Domain Name Server Setup and you'll see several options. One will say "Use Namecheap Hosting DNS Servers" and the other will say "Specify Custom DNS Servers ( Your Own DNS Servers )
Step five: Click Specify Custom DNS Servers and there will be several numbers: 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.
Step six: Depending on your web hosting provider they should give you the nameservers you need to register so type in the first nameserver to 1. and the second to 2. Example: 1. ns1.webhostingprovidersurl.com, 2. ns2.webshostingprovidersurl.com.
Step seven: You have now registered your nameservers, please wait between 12 and 24 hours until your DNS propogates (is set up).

Congratulations, if everything went well, you have now properly configured your nameservers with your web hosting provider.
