What are add-on domains?

Can someone please explain the concept of add on domains and how they are used?

An add-on domain enables you to manage multiple domain names and run several websites from a single hosting account. It also allows you to share your existing disk space and bandwidth between all your domains. Not only is everything controlled at one designated location, it prevents people from determining whether it is actually your primary domain or simply an add-on

When your website is hosted, you will get a hosting account. Here you can see the domain that has been hosted. This domain is the primary domain for your hosting account. When you decided to host another domain and buy hosting, you add this new domain on your hosting account (provided you are hosting the second from the same hosting company). based on how many websites your hosting package allows, you can add domains to your hosting account. This is called add on domains.
