    With social networking, you join and interact with a group of person that you call your network! When you use the same network to market a product, an article or anything else, you are doing social marketing because you are marketing on social groups or networks!

    I guess people use social networking to interact with people and they use social marketing to advertise their business. But as you gave the title " Social networking vs social marketing" then i think you are talking about business through these two ways. In that case i would say if your social networking is strong then your social marketing will be benefited. So you can say that in this point of view social networking is the first stage of social marketing.

    When you do social networking you will be building friends, followers, and customers. When you do social marketing, you will be promoting your website or business. When you want to promote your products and services through social marketing, the first thing you need is followers. You gain followers only through social networking. Thus, social networking and social marketing are connected. You can build your customers through social networking and you will drive sales through social marketing.

    Those 2 terms are directly related but maybe it’s just the color that makes it different. Social networking is what I do with Facebook. It is my network in the digital society where I connect to people particularly relatives and personal friends. I can also add new friends, people that I really don’t know. What I understand with social marketing is using the social media account for business purposes. One friend who posts everyday about the products she is selling in her drop shipping business is a clear example of social marketing for me. And as long as your friends are not annoyed by your marketing posts, that means your social marketing is tolerable to them.
