How many fake Facebook profiles?

According to statisticbrain.com, there are 81,000,000 fake Facebook profiles!

Does anyone know what these fake profiles are for?

Some people keep secret or alternate identities on Facebook, hidden from spouse, loved ones, coworkers, etc. They might be doing this for good reasons, then again sometimes not.

My take on fake profiles on Facebook are those accounts that do not use their real names. And I agree that they are a lot because just in my network, there are so many of my friends who do not use their real identity as the profile name. In fact, they constitute the majority on my friends list. But if the fake means fake per se to be used for illegal and immoral purposes I don’t think it is that many.
