    Managing your family connections on Facebook

    I've noticed that some of my Facebook friends list random people as their sister/brother/parent and these people are so obviously not related to them. Why do they do that? And, is it advisable to let someone list you as their relative when you are not? Or, how would you untag yourself from that person if they did?

    Yes it is actually needed so that your new friends can come to know about your family members or close ones.

    I don’t actually use those connections with family because it is not a good idea to be completely identified. I know that you can trace my family if you will do an investigation but that’s your call. Why would I make it easier for you to know my siblings and parents? That feature of Facebook has no appeal to me and I guess it is an oversight on the part of Facebook. They are always thinking of the positive and had forgotten the negative side of that feature.

    Most people list accurate family connections though sometimes teens will list their friends as siblings instead.

    I wouldn't be that stupid to do such a thing on Facebook no matter the reason. I mean listing someone I don't know well as a brother or sister can backfire if that person is involved in any criminal activities on the internet. I am always careful with doing such things.

    I don’t think it is a good idea to list down your familyconnections because you may be exposing yourself to the so called posers and scammers that can do you harm in the future. Some of my friends have that list of their relatives that obviously are not real because those siblings are more of their chums or classmates. Those accounts are mostly from the younger generation since maybe it is their culture to call a friend sister or brother… with another mother.
