    I think the reason for hiring an SEO company or SEO specialist is more for the lack of time than the lack of skills. Most website owners that I know have so many chores to do and adding to that the SEO work will certainly give them an overload of work hence it is only practical to hire someone to do the SEO work for you. But with the creation of the contents I guess it is better if the site owner will do that.

    The only reason I really see to hire a person/company to do SEO for your site is if you don't know what you are doing, or are looking to get better results. Even by hiring someone you may not be getting better services then what you can do. I think you would be better off learning how to do your own SEO before you pay someone thousands of dollars to do your sites SEO. That is just my take on the paying someone to do SEO.

    Yeah, seriously either one of these approaches to SEO (such as hiring a company to do the job, not checking in or understanding SEO) can lead to financial ruin as you can always get swindled by someone who is ruthless enough to take your money and give you little in return. After all, if you don't understand SEO, how can you know what you should be receiving in return?
