Create good content for your readers enjoyment. I'm not saying that backlinks play no part in ranking a site but take care of what's most important first and get your mind on the reader and how you can help them versus trying to attract search engine traffic.

Just do white hat seo as always because it helps you a lot to rank to site in google and any other search engines in longterm basis.
and as we all know its not possible to rank a site in any search engines with out doing on page optimization, so be serious on that part if your site is optimized well than just do what the tricks you have to get page rank in any search engines.
but the most important trick is content submission and link building.

There is a saying that content is king so my suggestion is to focus on the content of your website. You can definitely improve the search engine ranking if you will post good content on your website. Good content means it is unique and not copied, in part or in whole, from another website. And the content needs to be relevant to your niche. It will also help if you will add tags to your new contents. If you do that every day then you can wait a week or a month and the ranking of your website in the search engines will definitely improve.
