    Can anyone make a Search Engine Website?

    We all use the big search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.. but there are also some smaller ones that don't really get as much attention. Can anyone own a Search Engine website? Are Search Engine websites hard to make? What are they like to run & manage?

    Sometime back, famous rapper MCHammer masterminded a new search engine called WireDoo. I don't think it's around anymore but apparently it was supposed to have been fairly revoluntary with it's algorithm. So far as I know, maybe Google absorbed his search engine into their own. Can anyone make a Search Engine Website?

    That's mad, I never knew that about him. Can anyone make a Search Engine Website? I am just meaning though, is there like scripts about that can be bought and install on a website which is a search engine just like the big ones?

    There are two ways you could become remotely successful in making a public search engine.

    1. You have a lot of money (for marketing, research and server costs), or
    2. You have a brilliant idea for how to make a search engine that delivers better results.

    A search engine fundamentally needs to accept some sort of search query (for instance, a series of words) and then return web resources that it thinks are appropriate to the query. The way it decides what is appropriate to the query can be very important. One can use a simple algorithm like counting how many times any of the search words appears on a page. Google uses sophisticated techniques, including investigating the pages that link to a given page.

    Nothing is impossible, You can make your own search engine but make it popular you need to occupy a different style, provide a valuable information to user.

    not possible for individuals but we can google api, re-brand it and earn via adsense.. many scripts are in market for this..

    We have a tech in the office who is good in website design. He once said that making a search engine website is not that easy but it’s not that difficult either. All you will be needing are the contents of the parameter like checking for keywords, contents, and any other items that the search engine will check about the website. However the use of the search engine is the question. Will it be used? That’s why making a search engine website is not popular because no one will use it.

    It would take long hours of work for a single person to create a search engine. But it's possible. The question is why would you want to create one? Your search engine can't compare to the big ones, so why make one?
