Well, it's a search engine. Most probably a less known one. I only known about it when I checked out Dogpile.

It's the Russian largest search engine, only with the .com. According to Alexa, yandex.ru is 18th in the world.

Yandex is most widely used search engine in Russia. If you are targeting russians then I would suggest you to start doing SEO for yandex

To addon, if you are posting meme's related to soviet Russia then you don't have to do seo for yandex separately, as they are indexed faster than anything else

Yes ! Upto my knowledge Yandex is No.1 search engine in russia and then comes google. At least that was the case few months ago, when a survey results were out.

Actually speaking I've no idea. I've never tried it. Maybe it is based on local promotion on local TV channels, newspaper, etc. It could be anything, which is dependent on people of russia
