I really think that it depends on how much SEO you have invested in it and what sort of methods you are using. Some might take a long time and others might rank quick.

Google PageRank algorithm update is on hold. Matt Cutts recently announced that, pagerank update not going to happen soon. Its all about Ranking keywords in Google. To take up your website to top in Google, you have to clear out white hat optimization and improve your website structure using the standard codes.

Do you mean PR as in page rank or search engine placement as in where your site appears in Google search listings? If you mean the first, then it will happen during the next PR update. If you are concerned with how soon your site will be indexed, then just link from a high traffic do follow forum with your link and your site will get in Google search quickly.

What kind of work are you putting on your site? If you are working hard, and putting fresh content on it and getting backlinks and such you will have a much easier time then if you just leave it.

You can get your pages indexed in a few days if you backlink from a credible site. And, it's possible to see those pages pop up in Google search if you are not competing for a very popular term. However, a page ranking may take longer, months or more. That just depends on Google's schedule.

Getting page rank depends on many factors like :

1. Quality Content
2. Perfect SEO Optimisation
3. Good Traffic

Usually getting google pagerank took 5-6 months I think.

There is no precise period for the updating of the ranking in search engines. That is one issue that SEO specialist couldn’t resolve until now.
