When someone asks you to work for less money

How willing are you to work with a new or repeat customer to accommodate their budget? For instance, if your service price is usually $10 for an article, would you write one for $5.00? And, under what conditions would you change your price or create a new lower priced service just to accommodate that one customer?

I would consider offering a smaller package of services for a lower price to allow a sample of my work, but would never fully discount my higher end freelance services as this would only cheat me.

There are so many people who just aren't willing to spend the money. I've had people approach me to do articles for them for $1.50, and they weren't 100 word ones either. It's sad because people's time is valuable, and I'm sure if the shoe was worn on the other foot, they would probably see it as an insult...lol

I've had that situation happen too where someone asked me to write an article for $1.00 and I had to say no as that's just too little money to work for. And, though I don't write for cheap I can see it from the point of view of a struggling webmaster or blogger. These people are on a tight budget and they need high quality content. It never really hurts to ask someone if they will do a job. But really $1.00 is a super low amount to be offering to anyone. Hopefully they would understand that a writer has to make a living too and offer more money.

How willing are you to work with a new or repeat customer to accommodate their budget? For instance, if your service price is usually $10 for an article, would you write one for $5.00? Either I would try to stress more benefits of my service to build value for it in my potential customer's eyes -- and if that doesn't work, then I may consider offering a scaled-down version of my service and let them decide which one they want to choose based on the benefits & features of each.

Or you could let a new customer slide with a "special introductory offer" on your regularly priced service, but be sure that they understand it is just introductory rate because you want to earn their business as a new customer, and this is not your regular rate going forward.

It would be nice if every buyer were so generous to writers and recognized their value by asking to pay more. You're very lucky like this.

I've had that situation happen too where someone asked me to write an article for $1.00 and I had to say no as that's just too little money to work for. It is one thing trying to negotiate a discount but to offer $1 is the same as asking you to do it for free.

I wouldn't even turn my computer on for a dollar. It would use that much in electricity just to run it. lol

There is one buyer recently who keeps persistently messaging me to negotiate a better deal on one of my listings by asking if I'll do twice the work for the same price, or the same work for half the price, but I always refuse, and yet they still place the order (twice so far), because they know it's quality work.

You don't get great quality for a buck and experienced buyers know that and are willing to pay the price to get what they want. THOSE buyers are the customers I want...not cheapskates trying to squeeze my time for a buck or two.

Exactly, people who want something for nothing are usually not worth dealing with. They are a total waste of time and energy.
If you have priced the product/service correctly and if people still can't see the value in the service/product you are offering then they are not the customers/clients you want.

There's no reason to undercut yourself on your price as this will shorten your career as a freelancer. At some point, you won't be able to afford to freelance if you cut your prices repeatedly as it will no longer be profitable.

If you are working for less than minimum wage as a freelancer, then you are better off getting a real job, rather than trying to make freelancing work for you. The freelance lifestyle is not profitable for everyone. Don't under cut yourself just to please a few clients.

I will never lower my rate, however, I may under one condition, I don't have work and I need money. I will work for low rate only when I desperately need money. Otherwise I will never lower my rate. Sometimes when there is bulk work, I may reduce my rate by 20-30 percent.

I can lower my rate depending on the situation and conditions. There was a forum owner who invited me to his new forum saying that he needed my help with my good posts. I relented to give him some posts with nothing in return. But in lowering the payment to my services just to save on the budget, I don't think I would agree.
