Wouldn't it just be easier to work at a regular job?

Some people work at a regular weekday job and still freelance on the side as a part time business while others use freelancing as their sole source of income. But, with all the difficulties of obtaining a client and marketing a business, wouldn't it just be easier to get a regular job, than deal with the freelancer life hassles?

I don't know many people who are using freelancing as a primary job or income source. Maybe if that person is retired then they will be able to have extra income from freelancing, otherwise many people do hold a regular job in addition to freelance work.

Some people are not able to work at regular jobs due to illness or age related conditions which decrease mobility. For those people the freelancer life would be the ideal solution.

@Asmodeus solely works online, whereas I work part time at the hospital. It's nice to have a mixture of both. I love what I do as a career (nursing), but I wouldn't want to work full time. Freelancing provides me with more flexibility while expanding my knowledge in my writing.

I have a part time job offline to pay bills and am working as a blogger online. I don't think of my online work as a career or job even if it produces me. It's just something I like doing and it's nice when that gives me money but not an essential reason for doing it.

I have a full time job and also do freelancing. I would never be able to just survive off freelancing, but it is a nice way to supplement my regular income.

And, this is the situation for many, who only use freelancing to buy little extra things that their salary might not afford. But it is a nice way to start down the path of financial independence as you can always use your freelance money for retirement savings.

Yes you can certainly use it for that. I am using it for a loan to pay down and am quite happy with how that is going.

Avery, you make a valid and interesting point concerning the difficulties of the freelancer and microjob world.

However, it should be considered that not everyone has the good fortune to secure a full time regular job. Many others are not able to even gain regular part time employment. Freelancing and micro jobs helps to fill a gap and also serves those who cannot commit to a regular or full time job.

I imagine there are hundreds, perhaps thousands who can contribute to their personal income by providing various forms of freelancing and microjobs.

I am working as full time freelancer for 3 years now, before that I had a full time job for 2 years. So its pretty early days of my career. Comparing freelancing with full time job, I would say - doing freelancing provides me the option how I invest my time. So there is no commitment that I have to eat 8.00 a.m everyday, be there at office for some constant time, do the work etc. But when I am freelancing there is no commitment. And I like this freedom, as it help me to be more creative and productive at the same time.

Some people have been very successful working as a freelancer online. I am now working as an online tutor and I am liking this experience. The compensation seems to be good too. To be successful online it depends on your skills, the amount of time you are willing to spend online and you must also work hard. I prefer this freelancing job to my regular job. I do not have to travel to work and I can work at my own pace.

I think a lot of it has to do with mindset. Some people are very, very happy being their own boss and doing freelance work full time. I think they find it makes their life more fulfilling than working a 9 to 5 job every weekday.

I'm one of those people who works full time during the week, but finds time on the side to do freelance work online and for clients offline. I think I'm lucky that I found a full time job that gives me creative freedom with my passion for video and photography, so I feel fulfilled working right where I am. The stuff I do on the side is simply for additional experience and a little extra cash.

However, I've found that freelancing comes with more responsibility than I'd like at the moment, at least for me. I have a registered LLC with my state, which means I report all of my income from my business throughout the year and pay taxes on what I make. Because of this, I keep a detailed list of profit and expenses to make tax time that much easier for myself. This is a lot of hassle, and I'm a little tired of it.

I have a full time job and my freelancing is on my spare time. Earning a fixed and regular salary is good for the peace of mind. My freelancing is actually in preparation of my retirement in 5 years time. I don't want to be idle so I would have an occupation when I retire. Let's not talk of the earnings because freelancing cannot be compared with my office job.

Nothing good comes easy even the regular Job comes it own hassles. Sometimes it could an annoying colleague, oppressing boss,bad working conditions, irregular payments etc.Nothing is certain. it just for us to keep striving.
