Dealing with clients when you are not a people person

I don't like to think of myself as a people person. I don't mind being surrounded by people or listenign to them talk. But, I don't really like interacting with others. However, as a freelancer, I have to talk to people. I want to break out of my shell and be more social. I just have to find a way to deal with clients who want my services.

Just take it one step at a time. Learn to deal via text, email or messenger with your clients, rather than trying to talk on the phone. This is the best way to contact most business people anyway. If you require a phone consultation, have a listing of all the things you need to say or ask your client and then stick to your list.

Before getting online, I was not a very social person. But, that changed when I first got online. It's so much easier to deal with people online than random strangers in real life. And, though technically everyone online is a stranger, most don't act like it. So it just makes it easier to deal with. If I had to give advice on feeling at ease online, I would just say take it slow and only go with what you feel comfortable doing. Don't push yourself. It gets easier over time.

The good thing about being a freelancer is how you can work in relative anonymity without fear of actually ever talking to anyone (such as on the phone or in person). As a freelancer, you will likely do most of your communications by email or private message when completing the job. So you don't have to worry about confrontational face to face social interactions that go along with selling or job interviews.

I work with a lot of my clients over emails or messages. Rarely do I get a client that wants to call me or talk to me on the phone.

Unless you are in face to face selling, there is very little chance you will need to personally talk to anyone, even on the phone as a freelancer. Almost all your dealings will be in the comfort and safety of your own home (or office) and done via texting or emails.

Like the others, I don't consider myself a people person although I am not an introvert. But with my stint in freelancing, I am beginning to be oriented with people. Writing is actually like speaking in a different medium so I am immersing myself in a kind of socializing. And in the near future, I may adapt it to the real society.

We learn to do things by doing them, when you realize your work entails talking to people then you just learn to start talking to people.just keep talking to people and of course, they'll respond and you continue that way till you're used to it.
