Both are important factors to make your work better or to achieve your goal in less time. If you are working without know what result it giving you, you can't judge your performance or findout your mistakes or resolve them. So how much seo is important, monitoring your website is also important.

I understand your concern about the downtime of your website. When my husband was the admin of their office website, there was a time that their website was down for 2 days and he didn’t know it. He was out on an assignment and there was no one to monitor the website. That was a lesson to him that whenever they will will see that the website is down, they will immediately call the host provider. And if the downtime occurs very often, I think it is time to change your hosting provider.
