How to get more discussions on a forum?

We have no problems getting new responses on my forum, but there are very few discussions started.

I need some ideas for how to get new discussions started.

I don't want to be the only person starting discussions every day.

Set a goal for your forum, such as ten new discussions a day. Post that goal on your forum and ask your forum members to help you meet it.

The reward system can invigorate your forum with new threads. There is one forum that has a contest for the most popular thread which obviously would result to new threads. Another scheme is to award a title like Best Poster that will apply to created threads only. Creating new threads is one problem in forums because the tendency of posters is to make a reply because that is easier than thinking of a new topic.

Forst of all, you need active members on your forum. It is better to have 100 active users rather than 1000 inactive users. Secondly, you should open an interesting discussion thread. Do some research, find out what interest people most. Open thread on that topic. Based on my experience, I can say, Business and making money is the most popular topic for a forum. If your thread is "make money online" you will have lots of people joining the discussion. Secondly, people are also interested on the heallth related topic. People will join the discussion if your thread is "healthy food."
