Do you have an official countdown to opening for all your new forums?

What do you think of the idea of having an offical count down timer to the official opening of a new forum? When advertising the upcoming forum, you could let potential members know they can't register right away but should check the site out anyway. You might even have prizes for first, second and third members registered on the site who start actively posting in categories. This could be a good way to create initial excitement with new members.

I would not hype a soon to be opened forum too much by posting links or else people will click through prematurely and see the early construction stages of the site and then click away assuming the site is inactive.

When there is a new tv series, the billboards on the highway are trumpeting the launching date. The billboard includes a description of the plot aside from the cast. That is becoming the standard of tv networks here for their new shows. With a forum that is about to open, I guess it’s a good marketing strategy to announce it in advance. When the promotion is creative enough, people will be curious so you can expect some onlookers on day 1.
