How long do you allow inactive members to remain?

Do you regularly clean off your member list so that inactives are removed? What criteria do you use for deleting a member who is no longer active?

What if a very good member was inactive due to illness or misfortune and came back to find they had been deleted? For that reason, I won't delete a loyal member who is just not posting anymore.

I would not delete anyone. Just leave them on a site and if they are active great. If not then assume there is some reason for it and do not delete. maybe send a message asking them to come back?

If a member has taken time to contribute so much good content over the years, then a little absence should not be held against them. Just send a private message or email and ask the person to come back.

Is there a problem with storage or operation of the forum if an inactive member stays in the list forever? For me, it is great to show a long list of members regardless if they are active or not. I sometimes check on the membership before I join a forum and when I see that the list contains less than a hundred, I think that forum is small. But for a forum to have 500 members, gee, that’s a pretty big forum. But for all we know, there are only 20 active members. But still, that long list of membership has given me a good impression.
