    Staff members who work on a competitor's site

    Would you accept it if you found out a staff member or admin was working on your biggest competitor's site? Would you make them choose between the sites or outright strip that person of their forum position?

    I am not sure about that. It is not really right to make them choose. If they are not doing anything to harm your site then there should be no issues with it.

    I'd wait for some time and see which forum they are more dedicated on.
    If they are spending more time in the competitor's forum, I'd simply ask them if they would like to leave, and if they want to, I'd demote them, and if they said they don't want to, I'd wait some more time and if I still see him spending more time on that forum, I'd strip him/her of his/her rank immediately. If I see they spend more time on my forum, I'd ask them to make a decision, and their decision will be mine too.

    I think I would make them choose, if you are paying them. If not, you really don't have any claim to their loyalty but it still doesn't seem like a good idea to keep them around. If they know your ideas and secrets in advance, they may be giving these to your competitor...

    I think I would make them choose, if you are paying them. If not, you really don't have any claim to their loyalty but it still doesn't seem like a good idea to keep them around. If they know your ideas and secrets in advance, they may be giving these to your competitor...

    Ask them to pick. I see nothing wrong with that. If they are dedicated to you, then they will make the right choice.

    They need to pick. It is not fair to your site or your competitors site if they work on them both. Info could be used on both of them and then neither site will be unique.

    I agree completely, the person is in a position of trust and may have conflicts of interest working for two competing sites.

    After all, what if the sites are very similar and you announce plans for a great contest and suddenly that same idea pops up a week before you get to use it on the competing site where your staff member also works? Obviously, they are sharing your ideas with others. And, that can put you at a disadvantage.

    Even if the staff is your relative or even your best friend, it is still unethical to be fishing on 2 ponds, so to speak. He has to make a choice on which site to stay with. However, I am a diplomatic person and I am amenable to valid reasons like if he is paid good by that competitor site and that he loves your site hence he couldn’t choose. Maybe that’s good enough reason that I will accept. But of course, he will be under observation all the time, just for security measure.
