    Does it help or hurt search engine ranking to link to other sites?

    It's just my opinion, but I think that Google wants it's users to be able to search and find out the most relevant and authoritative websites for any given query. So when you link to authoritative websites that contain relevant information, you are providing a worthwhile service to Google search users.

    What is your opinion?

    Linking out to relevant authhority sites is always a good idea and definitely increases your site's trust factor with Google.

    Just think how trusted Wikipedia is with Google, always ranking high in Google search results, for almost any term you can imagine. Maybe a big part of that comes from the numerous annotations which link to authoritative source material. Those annotations/links say to Google, all this information is well documented and based on authoritative sources, versus just another person's opinion.

    Yes I am of the strong opinion that it can facilitate. It makes perfect sense to do that because that's the way the web works and grows. Google likes related links that come from related sites that much we know. So it makes sense that the reverse would apply too if you was linking to a related site that was another high authority resource because that improves the experience for the searcher. So I believe that it can really help from that perspective. You're linking to an already high authority resource which is related to what your page content is all about and that adds additional value to your content.

    This is actually a method that many SEOs will do now it's no secret that it can help by adding some extra credibility to your content. When you build Web 2's you would do that on as well more than your site. It's fine to do it all the time but not in every single article on your site because that would just probably look obvious and you'd end up loosing a bit of juice to them unless they were no followed, but that begs the question, when you do that, should you no follow those links or not? Does it make any difference if you do? Do you still get the credibility for linking to another high authority resource when you no follow the link? I'm not sure you would because you are telling the crawler not to visit it and give it any juice and basically discounting it as a link that isn't very valuable to you on your site, in your content. What do you think?

    Google has a lot of hush-hush signals they use in their algorithm.
    Possibly Google uses the sites you link to as a way to verify what your site contet is about. After all, a site about growing prized roses isn't likely to be linking to a car dealership site as those two things have nothing in common. That site would likely be linking to similar gardening themed sites. And, possibly that's how Google is able to tell when a person is selling links on their site as the sites being linked to are not at all similar in nature to the content which the link is on.

    MY TAKE: A website needs to have a good quality content as well as a good quality backlinks too. both of them work hand-in-hand. If you have a good content and there are not visitors readers to read it, then it is just useless so you need backlinks to rank it high in search engine results so that you can get traffic to your website. That is what i mainly do for my website. Creating backlinks can hurt your website if they are so numerous and of low quality all created at the same period.

    As long as the links are of good quality and relevant, they will be helpful for SEO purposes. A lot of backlinks will not be advantageous. Backlinks need to be made wisely if they are to prove beneficial. So, the higher the relevance of the inbound links is, the greater their quality is. One thing is for sure - interlinking sites will not help from a search engine point of view. And too many reciprocal links are not recommended. I feel that as long as one does backlinks in a responsible way, they will help. Otherwise they will be disadvantageous.

    I don't think to link your website to other websites is a good idea. When you link to another website, you are basically pointing your visitors to other websites. The content on your website should always satisfy your visitors and you should not drive your visitors to other websites.
    When you are publishing an article with facts, sharing one of two links as the source of your fact can be considered good. However, your main intention of having these links at the bottom of your article is only to establish the authenticity of your article, and not pointing your visitors to other websites.

    Correct me if I am not right in my understanding of the subject of this discussion. If I have a blog that has a paragraph about a kind of dog’s breed and I cited a portion of Wikipedia for proof of course I have to include the link of that Wikipedia page, right? Will that link be the one that we are talking about in this discussion? Will that link help the reputation of the blog with search engines?
